Phyllis Tuckwell agrees lease on temporary office facility in Farnham.

Local hospice care charity Phyllis Tuckwell has secured the letting of a 20,112 sq ft office property, close to Farnham town centre, which its community teams and support staff will use while its new state-of-the-art Hospice is being built.

The two-storey, air-conditioned property, Headway House, is located on Crosby Way, West Street and has nearly 120 on-site car parking spaces. It currently provides a mix of open plan and private office accommodation and is set within a self-contained landscaped site, opposite the Memorial Hall and Farnham Town Football Club’s ground.

The property has been taken on a new two-year lease from Questrum Holdings Ltd and will be occupied by the charity as a temporary office facility, on a peppercorn rent, during the demolition and rebuild of the new Hospice on Waverley Lane, Farnham.

“The number of people needing our expert supportive and end-of-life care is already high and, due to our ageing and growing population, is set to increase substantially,” said Peter Foxton, Director of Income Generation at Phyllis Tuckwell.

“Our existing building has served us well but is dated, poorly laid out and costly to run. The new Hospice will transform the way in which we work, helping us to care for 3,000 people a year by 2040. We are delighted to have agreed on the lease on Headway House in West Street for our Community and support staff during the new Hospice project, and would like to thank Curchod & Co and Questrum Holdings for their help in managing this.”

Nick Reeve of Curchod & Co, who advised on the letting of the property, said: “While much needed, the rebuilding of the existing Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice will also prove challenging for the charity as it is essential that its vital work within the community continues around the clock. For this reason, we are very pleased to conclude this letting. The generous terms agreed by our client will allow Phyllis Tuckwell to save substantial sums of money that can be used elsewhere, including towards the cost of the rebuilding of the existing hospice.”

Jeanette Bird of Questrum Holdings added, “It is an honour, and a privilege to support Phyllis Tuckwell during the rebuild of the hospice by providing the charity with accommodation and allowing it to carry on business as usual during the redevelopment.”

Demolition of the existing hospice building is planned to take place this November/December, and building work will start from January 2024, with the charity aiming to move into the new Hospice two years later, by January 2026.
